Some of our moments
Annual Scholarship Auction - Monday Nov 17
Our annual scholarship auction was held on Monday November 17. This event raises money for local education majors in their junior/senior year. This year we gave one $500 scholarship to a local education student.
Buckeye Community Services hosts our October meeting at their most recent project - The Greenhouse: Poplar Row
Kevin Whetstone and Clint Ash talked to members about the services provided to stakeholders involved in one of the newest projects: the greenhouse.
Their goal is to create jobs opportunities to individuals where traditional employment is not available. Their second goal is to create a sustainable food source for clients.
Members enjoyed hot dogs, chili, and s'mores in a casual environment. The "store" was open as well for members to check out the local crafts, honey, and pumpkins for sale.
The store/greenhouse is open 10am-5pm Monday thru Friday and 10am-3pm Saturday.

Tina talks about Chaucer
Thanks goes out to member Tina Callahan for sharing her journey to jolly ole England this past summer, Tina presented at our February meeting. Tina studied Chaucer with other educators from all over the US.
Geoffrey Chaucer, known as the Father of English literature, is widely considered the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages and was the first poet to have been buried in Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey
In the photo Tina shares a replica of a "green man" which are made from leaves and commonly used as a decorative architectural ornament, Green Men are frequently found on carvings in churches and other buildings.

Schools For Africa
At each of our meetings this year we decided to "pass the hat" to collect money for the Schools For Africa Campaign. Delta Epsilon members Dr. Nancy Fry and Ms. Vanessa Allison presented the program to our group at the first meeting of the year.
New Teacher Welcome Gifts
Delta Epsilon decided last May 2012 to prepare some new teacher gifts to the new female teachers in Jackson County Ohio. Statistics show 46% of early career teachers will leave education within the first five years. (source: www.dkg.org) As veteran teachers we need to support our new teachers any way we can.
Each teacher received a flower pot painted with chalkboard paint so they could change their message as they wish. They also received various items depending on their grade level and subject matter:

President's Project

Our chapter recently held a fund raiser to purchase books by nationally aclaimed anti-bullying expert Jodee Blanco. Ms Blanco traveled to Jackson last week to address students at Jackson Middle School and High School then ended the day with a community event. In conjunction with these events, she donated copies of her books, Please Stop Laughing At Me and Please Stop Laughing At Us to the Jackson City Schools. As part of our chapter's President's Project, we decided to donate copies of those same two books to the Oak Hill Union Local School District and Wellston City Schools. Ms Blanco was more than happy to autograph the copies of her books that were purchased by our chapter. We are still a little short of funds to cover the costs of the ten books. If you did not participate in the fund raiser, you can still donate money to cover the cost of the books.
