Summer 2009 Kim along with several other teachers from SE Ohio participated in a STEM workshop at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. Teachers visited the research labs within the department of engineering. Some of the research included bio-fuels, coal, algae for fuel, farm waste for fuel cells, and solar energy. Participants were given $1000 to use for equipment in the classroom to do STEM activities with their students.
2010 the Ohio University grant writers again offered $1000 to teachers to participate in year two.
2011 the Ohio University grant writers again offered money, but since only 3 teachers accepted, each received approx $4000 through the NEA STEM foundation. Another component added to the 2011-2012 school year was a Public Service Announcement to be filmed using the teachers and students of the participating schools.
Larry King from Warren HS, Troy Weaver from Vinton Co. HS, and Kimberly Lewis from Buckeye Hills Career Center.
